What is a Certified Farm Advisor?
Farm producers, families, and those in agri-business require quality, accurate advice on the complex issues faced by the farming industry today. At MRSB, we’re proud to be the only professional services firm in Prince Edward Island to offer accounting and business advice from a Certified Agricultural Farm Advisor, a member of the Canadian Association of Farm Advisors (CAFA).
CAFA’s objectives are to provide farmers and agri-businesses with improved access to quality farm advice through education of member advisors. CAFA advisors maintain high standards while continually increasing farm advisory skills and knowledge intended to provide measurable value to farmers and agri-businesses.
Chris MacPhee, CPA, CA, CAFA, Accounting Manager with MRSB, spearheaded the Prince Edward Island chapter of Certified Farm Advisors with the goal of supporting regional farm businesses with valuable financial guidance provided by a group of advisors with varying professional backgrounds. Prior to December 2018 when the Prince Edward Island chapter was formed, the nearest CAFA chapter was in eastern Ontario.
“CAFA certified advisors benefit from gaining new knowledge through monthly chapter meetings and being up to date on industry risks, trends, and solutions both inside and outside their own area of expertise. Farmers that are working with a CAFA farm advisor can take comfort in knowing that their advisor is equally as passionate about agriculture as they are and can help to provide quality advice on big-picture risks outside of the regular day-to-day operations of the farm.”
– Chris MacPhee, CPA, CA, CAFA, Accounting Manager
There are many variables that can expose farmers to risk each year, such as weather and pricing for their inputs and outputs. Qualified advisors can help mitigate risk and assist with the long term success of the farm.
