Michelle Burge, BBA, FCPA, FCA
Michelle draws on her close to 30 years’ experience in accounting to work with business, government and not-for-profit organizations to help realize their accounting needs. Michelle oversees the accounting and auditing functions of the firm with a diverse client base across Prince Edward Island. Michelle has considerable experience in audit and assurance engagements with private sector companies, municipalities, cooperatives, credit unions and not-for-profit organizations.
Michelle is involved in several community organizations including Chair of the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of PEI, as well as Chair of the Practice Inspection Committee for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of PEI.
Terry Soloman, TEP, CPA, CA
Upon joining MRSB in 1990, Terry saw a need for specialized tax services in the region. Since then, Terry became a firm Partner and has become recognized for his leadership in tax issues on a national stage and often works on behalf of clients to represent their best interests. He works with medium sized business owners to help them understand the tax issues facing them personally or professionally.
Terry is a designated Trust and Estate Practitioner and a board member of the Atlantic brand of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Canada.
Lloyd Compton, CPA, CA, CBV
Lloyd brings a global insight to his role with MRSB. As a Certified Business Valuator, Lloyd is able to provide expert valuation and advisory services to businesses, individuals, and government. He provides business valuation services for purchase or sale, tax and succession planning, shareholder and matrimonial disputes and insurance and litigation support. Lloyd also assists clients in the preparation of financial statements and in tax planning and compliance, frequently delivering workshops on business valuation, financing a business, and understanding financial statements.
Lloyd is a member of Collaborative Practice PEI, an effective, voluntary process utilizing the help of legal, family and financial professionals to resolve family disputes without court.
Karen Zakem, CPA (Montana)
Karen has been part of the MRSB team since she moved from Toronto to Prince Edward Island in 1995, starting her career as an Accounting Technician. She now manages MRSB's Bookkeeping & Reporting and Accounting & Audit divisions as a Principal with the firm. She performs a variety of services for clients including the review of government remittances, review of financial statements, preparation of billings, staff performance reviews and organization of training courses.
Karen has three teenage children, Rachel, Mark and Colin and has been married since 1994. She likes to read, listen to all kinds of music and spend time with her family.
Jaclyn Waite, CPA, CA
Jaclyn Waite joined MRSB in 2004 as a co-op student. She completed her BBA in 2005 from University of Prince Edward Island and received her Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in 2007. Since that time, Jaclyn has worked on a number of client accounts with a focus on audit and assurance files. Jaclyn oversees a number of files, as well as manages our Western PEI operations.
A native of Summerside, Jaclyn is an active community member and was a former member of a special committee to oversee fundraising and construction of the Summerside Rotary Library. She is President Elect of Summerside Rotary and a Board Member of the Summerside Chamber of Commerce.
Chris MacPhee, CPA, CA, CAFA
Chris MacPhee is a native of Souris, PEI, and earned his CPA, CA designation in
2009. Prior to returning home to PEI, Chris spent 11 years working for an accounting firm in Halifax, NS. In 2017, he joined MRSB, where he works with a variety of owner-managed businesses as well as clients in the agriculture industry to provide tax planning and business advisory services.
Chris is the founding member and Chair of the PEI Chapter of Canadian Association of Farm Advisors (CAFA), a non-profit professional organization dedicated to assisting farm businesses by increasing the skills and knowledge of farm advisors. He also serves as a mentor to MRSB students in the CPA program and young professionals in the industry.
