Matthew Simon, CPA, CGA
Matthew’s wife is a professional clarinetist, his parents are both professional clarinetists, and his first university degree was in music. Accounting and consulting? A distant thought until becoming acclimated to the field and realizing it was a good fit. Raised in Sherwood, Matthew spent seven years in Toronto where he pursued his accounting studies at York University. He worked at a framed sports memorabilia company providing royalty reporting for some of Canada’s top athletes, before working at a consulting firm for start-up multi-language media production companies, where he advised on and set up accounting processes as well as assisted with government funding. Prior to working at MRSB, Matthew spent two years in New York state working at an estate for exclusive weddings and events, while his wife toured with the pit orchestra for the acclaimed Chinese traditional dance group Shen Yun Performing Arts. Over the years, Matthew has worked on a number of projects aimed at drawing attention to human rights abuses in China, specifically with the Falun Gong spiritual movement. When it comes to accounting, Matthew is very detail-oriented, and draws satisfaction in being able to provide clients with accurate and timely financial analysis, along with developing accounting processes, to allow for growth and efficiency. On a lighter note, Matthew estimates that his jokes have a 10% success rate. He hopes to get to 15% by the end of this fiscal year.
